A historic port city, founded in Carthaginian times, with a Roman theatre in its centre and modernist facades along its streets.

Living in Cartagena

Cartagena has been a naval port since antiquity and is still home to a large naval base. The Roman Theatre, rediscovered at the end of the twentieth century, lies below the old cathedral, and around Calle Mayor and the harbour front stand many buildings in modernist style.

The city has shops, a university and hospitals, and life here goes on all year. Homes are mostly apartments in the centre and the districts around it. For the beach, Cabo de Palos, Calblanque and the Mar Menor are a short drive away.
